A new DLC expansion for Hollow Knight: Silksong, called Sea of Sorrow, is officially in the works. Furthermore, it will be free and releasing sometime in 2026.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is the long-awaited spin-off to the acclaimed 2017 indie Metroidvania, Hollow Knight. Playing as Hornet, you’ll take down many hard bosses and explore the bug-infested land of Pharloom. Its release had been anticipated by many for years since being announced in 2019 before finally launching in September 2025. The game was met with critical praise from fans and outlets, even earning several year-end awards, including Best Action/Adventure Game at The Game Awards last week. Now, Team Cherry has revealed what’s next for Hornet with a small but intriguing tease.

Hollow Knight: Silksong – Sea of Sorrow DLC Expansion Announced by Team Cherry, Coming in 2026
In a blog on Team Cherry’s website, the team revealed new plans for the Hollow Knight series. High among those was the announcement of a new DLC expansion for Hollow Knight: Silksong, titled Sea of Sorrow. The announcement teaser can be found above. As of writing, no specific release date was given outside of 2026. However, the DLC will be free for all owners of the title. According to the blog, the expansion will give Hornet an all-new area to explore with new tools and new bosses to fight. More information will be revealed before its release.
