As he’s promoting Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tom Holland explains how the recent Spider-Man video games on PlayStation have influenced the action in the new film.
Spider-Man is one of the oldest properties to be adapted into both film and video games. The adventures of Peter Parker have been playable since the days of the Atari 2600. Still, it wasn’t until more recent years that the true experience of playing as Spider-Man was realized.
Insomniac’s Spider-Man titles feel, for many, like the true realization of the maximized potential of controlling everyone’s favorite wall crawler. The games are so strong that they have influenced the new Spider-Man film being released this week.
Tom Holland Says Spider-Man Games Inspired Brand New Day Action

During an interview with IGN at the movie’s premiere, Tom Holland explained how the fast-paced action in Insomniac’s games inspired the new film. He really enjoyed incorporating some of the game’s finishing moves into the fight scenes.
“A lot of the finishing moves. I was actually playing the game last night. I couldn’t sleep last night; I was so excited about today. I was trying to figure out what I was gonna do, and I was like, ‘I’ll just throw the game on and have some fun.’ For me, a lot of those finishing moves, a lot of our stuff was influenced by that stuff.”
Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth film centered around Tom Holland’s portrayal of Peter Parker, releases in theaters on Friday, July 31.
