Mortal Shell 2 Free Console Beta Shadow Dropped

Mortal Shell 2 developers have made a surprise announcement today, with the game getting a free console beta shadow drop.

PlayStack and Cold Symmetry’s dark action RPG is set to launch on August 20, 2026. While we wait for the release, the developers have released a console open beta just under three weeks prior to the full launch. This beta could help attract one last wave of console players ahead of the release. Read on to learn more about what is included in the console beta.

Mortal Shell 2 Free Console Beta Details

The free console open beta for Mortal Shell 2 is available to download right now on the PlayStation 5 and the XBOX Series X/S. Through that, players will be able to check out the opening hours of the game, which includes the Prologue and the early section of the open world. The beta will also let players cleanse beacons, explore optional dungeons, take on hidden mini-bosses, challenges, and battle Magdelena, the Lady of the Woods.

Players who try Mortal Shell 2’s open beta will be granted an exclusive cosmetic reward, The Flayed Harbinger, with the full launch. There is also some level of progress carryover, which means that if you play beyond the Marrow Keep, you don’t need to play the Prologue again with the full release. However, beta save progress will not carry over to preserve the balance, which means the Currency, weapons, Shells, collectibles, and other items you collect during the beta will be reset.
