MindsEye Adds a ‘Grenade Football’ Multiplayer Mode… For Some Reason

Build a Rocket Boy: the developers behind MindsEye have added a new multiplayer mode to the game called ‘grenade football’… for some reason.

The new gamemode comes as part of Update 8 to MindsEye, which sees players battle it out on the football pitch with grenade launchers.

It almost seems like a joke, but MindsEye now has a 6v6 multiplayer game mode which seems heavily inspired by Rocket League.

The game mode’s official game description reads, “Forget the rulebook. In MindsEye, football just got a lot more explosive. Grab a grenade launcher, line up your shot, and blast the ball into the net with your team. Multiplayer mayhem where every match comes down to who’s got the best aim.”

As expected, the community hasn’t taken well to the announcement, with comments on the game’s official YouTube trailer including things like “put the fries in the bag man” and “from GTA 5 to Rocket League it’s crazy”.

It’s not entirely clear why Build a Rocket Boy has decided to make such a drastic change, but given the studio’s current struggles, it’s likely a desperate attempt to get some players to the game.

At the time of writing, the update and game mode have increased concurrent players by only 12, meaning the game’s peak concurrent on Steam in the past 24 hours was only 36.

That being said, it seems like no one really knows about the game mode, with hardly any online chatter or media coverage.

Earlier this year, Build a Rocket Boy and IO Interactive’s publishing partnership ended in what appeared to be abrupt circumstances and the studio continues to make headlines for all the wrong reasons.
