How To Get More Elixirs In Nioh 3—Best Elixir Farming Methods, Explained

Now and again in your time on this planet, something will be described as the ‘elixir of life.’ This is quite literal in Nioh 3, as Elixirs are the main thing stopping you from an early grave. Find out how to hold more Elixirs and what the maximum allocation is.

Same name, different purpose. Elixirs are Nioh‘s equivalent of Estus Flasks, Pulse Cells, and whatever names other Soulslikes like to brand health as. Nioh 3 is no walk in Japan, and you need more Elixirs to survive. If you find yourself coming up short against the game’s toughest bosses, you might need another one or two Elixirs in your back pocket.

You need to find hidden Kodama collectibles in Nioh 3’s various sub-regions to be able to hold up to four more Elixirs in Nioh 3, giving you a max total of eight Elixirs at any one time.

If you’ve come across a small green Japanese spirit with a cute bowl on its head, you’ve found a Kodama. They are a staple of the Nioh franchise, and Team Ninja has littered them throughout Nioh 3’s regions.

These are easily identifiable on the game’s map by a small head with what looks like a tiny hat on it—when it’s actually a bowl, because it’s adorable. If you’re having trouble finding them, Insider Gaming does have an extensive Warring Sides map showing you all of the game’s early Kodamas.

As the game states: “Each time you show a Kodama the way home, the number of Elixirs replenished at Shrines will be increased.”

What’s The Maximum Amount Of Elixirs Can You Hold In Nioh 3?

Eight is the limit when it comes to holding Elixirs in Nioh 3.

Nioh 2 was quite generous with Elixirs, as it allowed you to cross the double-digit threshold. Now, Nioh 3 is liberally applying the brakes and being a bit stingier. Once you’ve hit the Kodama cap, you’ll be able to hold a maximum of eight Elixirs when you Pray or respawn at a Shrine, or you stock up while you’re out and about.

Be warned: If you run out of Elixirs in the Storehouse, you’ll be down to the minimum. You don’t want this.

Best Elixir Farming Methods In Nioh 3

The best ways to farm Elixirs in Nioh 3 are to kill enemies, open chests, obtain Kodama Merit to increase drop rates, and interact with Six Jizo statues to also increase Crucible drop rates.

Chests

There are countless small and large chests sprinkled throughout Nioh 3. Some are out in the open, whereas some require you to open a suspiciously contrived locked door to access. This ties into the idea of exploring all that Nioh 3 has to offer. The more you explore, the better gear and items you get, and the odds of you stockpiling Elixirs go up exponentially.

Eliminate All Enemies

Probably the most basic and easiest farming method in the world: Kill every enemy you see. The beauty of this is that when you rest at a Shrine or succumb to a grizzly death, you’ll respawn, and the enemies of the world will also respawn. You can effectively farm as many Elixirs as you want if you are bloodthirsty enough for Yokai meat.

Kill, respawn, rinse and repeat. You should be able to build up a nice collection of Elixirs if you’re struggling, but there are two ways to better the item’s spawn rate.

Kodama Merit

Look for Kodamas in every region and sub-region. Not only does it increase the Elixir cap, but you earn Kodama Merit for finding them. This can then be used at a Shrine to upgrade several features.

Here’s how to do this:

  1. Find Kodamas throughout Nioh 3.
  2. Once you have a decent amount of Kodama Merit, go to a Shrine.
  3. Select Blessing.
  4. Choose Kodama Blessing.
  5. Upgrade the Elixir drop rate stat.

This increases the Elixir drop rate percentage, and it can go as high as 10%, 15%, and more!

Six Jizo Merit

Similar to Kodamas, if you find Six Jizo statues, you obtain Jizo Merit. Again, you can increase your Blessing, and this time, you can increase the Elixir drop rate in the Crucible.

You should never die in Nioh 3 with this information! If only it were as simple as this. If you need more guidance on Elixirs or anything else in the Soulslike, head on over to the free-to-join Insider Gaming Discord Server and pop a quick message or request down.
