Meta recently canceled a Harry Potter VR game following multiple studio closures and layoffs.

Gamertag VR on YouTube claimed that one of the games affected by the recent shake-ups in Meta’s gaming department was the Harry Potter game, which would have been developed by Skydance.

“Meta cancelled several exclusive games, one of which was going to be a Harry Potter official VR game,” he said. “It was being made by Skydance.”

The Future Of Harry Potter Games Is Safe

Although the VR game has been canceled, the world of Hogwarts will continue in video games, as the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, a Harry Potter-inspired MMO, is in development. To date, Hogwarts Legacy has sold over 40 million copies. The upcoming sequel could feature online multiplayer elements, according to a new job listing.

It was previously announced that four Meta Studios had faced either closures or layoffs: Twisted Pixel, Supernatural, Armature Studio, and Sanzaru Games. Across those four studios, more than 200 people were laid off. Learn more about that here.
