Final Fantasy 7 Director Discusses Final Fantasy 14 Crossover

Final Fantasy 7 director Naoki Hamaguchi has commented on the upcoming crossover between the Remake Trilogy and Final Fantasy 14. It was recently announced that the two Final Fantasy series will cross over as part of a raid in the Evercold expansion of Final Fantasy 14.

The raid, called Beyond the Lifestream, was revealed in July at the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival celebration in Berlin, Germany. The raid will have three tiers, each with three difficulty levels. One of those difficulties is new to this update and is designed to bridge the gap between the normal and Savage difficulties. Also, the original writer of Final Fantasy 7, Kazushige Nojima, is serving as the raid’s story supervisor.

Naoki Hamaguchi Shares New Details on FF7 and FF14 Crossover

In a new interview with GamesRadar+, Naoki Hamaguchi discussed the crossover and the need to ensure it wouldn’t be derailed by the popular MMO’s patch schedule. He reiterated that the Remake Trilogy dev team has been heavily involved in creating the event, including collaborating on assets that will be used.

He also detailed the collaboration process, noting that teams typically get very excited about crossovers, and that the challenge is striking the perfect balance between incorporating everyone’s ideas and not undermining prior plans for Final Fantasy 14 updates.

“We have to be really careful that it’s not impacting the FF14 patch release schedule, because then that would be putting the cart before the horse,” he said.

Final Fantasy 14 Evercold is slated for release in January of next year. Insider Gaming will continue to monitor the story and report any updates as more information becomes available.
