A new game in the FAR CRY universe has passed its conception stage at Ubisoft and has entered development at Vantage Studios.
The new game comes in the wake of issues surrounding another FAR CRY game in development, codenamed Maverick, an extraction shooter that has since been canceled.
A New FAR CRY Game
Codenamed Kodiak, the new FAR CRY game is described as an open-world FPS where “player interactions and player-driven stories take center stage”.
Kodiak passed its conceptualization stage earlier this month and has been built on the foundations of Maverick, but thankfully, the series will now be leaving the extraction-shooter market behind… At least for now.
The game has been described as “really ambitious” by sources and is still several years away from its release.
Blackbird, the next mainline FAR CRY game, has also faced hurdles during development and has been repeatedly delayed internally due to issues. That being said, the game is now seemingly on a good path forward, and will also have a multiplayer component, where more than one player can experience the world together.
In an internal interview at Vantage Studios with Charlie Guillemot, Guillemot described Blackbird as “honestly impressive” and as “Act One”, suggesting that several mainline FAR CRY games with similar concepts are planned if Blackbird releases to a positively high reception.
Kodiak marks another game in Vantage Studios’ pipeline, helping Assassin’s Creed, FAR CRY, and Rainbow Six Siege dominate as dominant IPs with different experiences for different audiences.
