Capcom Hits 93% Digital Sales Record Through 2026

Capcom appears to be pioneering the digital revolution in the gaming space, based on recent figures. It was revealed in the company’s latest financial report that a whopping 93.3% of all sales recorded through Q1 of the current fiscal year for the firm were digital, leaving physical sales to account for a paltry 6.7%.

This figure was bolstered by the success of Resident Evil Requiem, which has become one of 2026’s best-selling titles, pushing Capcom to the highest volume it has seen in five years.

The Digital Push Marches On

Recently, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed an intention to scrap the production of discs for new PlayStation games from January 2028 onwards. It prompted incredible backlash from the wider gaming community, prompting a petition, a boycott effort, and a ‘global blackout’ action arranged for late August.

However, the numbers are the damning thing here. Sony arguably made that decision based on an 85% digital sales margin being front and centre in the most recent reports. Capcom’s numbers further strengthen the argument for an all-digital future.

In Q1 of Capcom’s current fiscal year, 93.3% of all games sold were digital. This represented more volume than last year, with 64% growth being seen year-over-year, but 2025’s percentage was higher. Last year, 95.2% of all Capcom games sold were digital.

To put it into perspective, 2023 represented a five-year low with 85% of sales being digital, but the consumer behavior is tangible and very apparent in the numbers.

In one line, Capcom outlined the situation:

Digital contents drove earnings; revenue and profit up YoY

In terms of the split, 60% of digital sales were recorded on PC, while 33% were on console.

In Q1 FY27, Pragmata sold 2.5 million units, while cumulative sales of Resident Evil Requiem pushed past 8 million units. Older titles, including Resident Evil 7, Monster Hunter: World, and Devil May Cry 5, all continued to sell well through the period.
