The game director for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has revealed that the original game’s code couldn’t be used as it was based on tech that is completely different from today.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has been released and is receiving widespread praise for staying true to the original content while incorporating elements that enhance the experience for modern gamers. However, the developers have clarified that although the original game’s code was used as a reference, it was not directly incorporated into the remake.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a ‘Brand New Game’
Spotted by GamesRadar+, during an interview with JorRaptor, Black Flag Resynced game director Richard Knight discussed the game’s development process. Knight started off stating, “Quite frankly, it’s a brand new game,” explaining the dev team was unable to use the code from the original 2013 Assassin’s Creed Black Flag. The reason is the gap between the two games: “the codebase and the tech is so completely different” that devs used it as a reference for the remake.
At times, they were able to use some assets as placeholders, but mostly the code was used “to look into the data, to see how certain things worked, to learn some of the secrets.” The devs had to rebuild a lot of the systems for the game to make it the best version of what it was before and also because they had no other choice. Knight concluded, stating that “when you go fresh sometimes that gives you the ability to make changes.”
