A pirated copy of Control Resonant began circulating on PC a day ahead of the game’s official Sept. 24 launch, but the reaction on r/PiratedGames was a little unusual. Instead of simply celebrating another new release becoming available for free, several users said they were buying the game anyway because they wanted to support Remedy.
One of the top comments under a post announcing the pirated release said Control Resonant was among the few games the user planned to buy. That immediately prompted similar responses: one person said they hadn’t planned to buy it but now felt they should, another said they were purchasing it specifically to support Remedy, and several others said the Finnish developer was a studio they were willing to pay. One commenter even recalled playing Max Payne on a pirated copy as a kid before saying they had now bought Resonant.
