GungHo showed off Ninjala 2 at the Tokyo Game Show 2026, with the sequel subbing the original's battle royale focus for open-world PvE and multiplayer co-op, according to Inven Global. This was the first real look at a game that had gone almost eerily silent since the original title launched in 2020.
The original game built a solid reputation as a PvP action game centered on bat-swinging melee attacks, ranged Gum Shoots, and Gum Ninjutsu abilities. GungHo has apparently retained that combat DNA for the follow-up. Practically everything else, though, has changed. Players will now be tasked with exploring an open world rather than queuing into arenas, with the director justifying the change on the basis that, well, this is what they’d asked for.
