CS2 Update Adds Bomb Interaction with Smokes and Molotovs

The July 21 Counter-Strike 2 update has updated the new bomb system to include a few interactions that fans had been asking for.

The update came only hours before the start of BLAST Bounty Season 2, which formally kicks off the second season of Tier 1 CS.

How the new CS2 Bomb interactions work

The July 9 Counter-Strike 2 update drastically changed how bombs work in Counter-Strike. The bomb now emanates a shockwave from the site, which spreads through the map.

It’s that shockwave that is now the focus of the latest update.

As soon as the July 9 update was released, players wondered if the bomb could be altered to interact with smokes, as they both have physics-based systems.

Smokes in CS2 could already be dissipated by explosions in the game, namely through High Explosive (HE) Grenades, so the potential for them to interact seemed pretty intuitive.

So in the July 21 update, smokes will now be temporarily blown away by the bomb explosion. Additionally, Molotovs and Incendiaries close to the bomb will be extinguished by the force of the bomb’s shockwave.

Valve removes information given by bomb damage preview

The update also changed how the projected damage from the bomb is shown. Previously, as soon as the bomb was planted, players could see how much health they would lose if the bomb went off.

Players complained that the damage projection was giving away information that the opposition should not have, namely where the bomb is planted on the map, which could be inferred from how much damage the player is going to take from that position.

Therefore, Valve has now updated how that projected damage is shown, only showing that damage when the bomb can be heard by the player.
