Insider Gaming interview with NertZ at the IEM Cologne 2026 Major

A very emotional, very difficult match against NAVI. How are you feeling?

Feeling great after we won this game, it will be a different story if we lose. But when you win this tense game, it even feels better.

How do you feel about the team’s level overall so far in the event?

I think we are giving our best. Especially, HeavyGod is playing really good, playing really consistent. And overall, I think everyone is doing their best for the team, and we are showing it, and we’re going to do it also in the playoffs.

How would you assess the progress of the team since you’ve joined?

I think it’s about, I think the bigger difference for me, the change was to change some game style, on some specific maps.

I know, for me, I’m talking, we are not there yet, but I think in two or three months, I think we will change more and more and more and I would feel better, I would say.

So what kind of things do you want to see develop in the future?

I think more open defaults, I would say. We are already changing a few maps. You can’t do it on every map. Some should be more set than the other. But overall, have this kind of little thing that it will be unpredictable.

There was a perception that the team was a little tactically simplistic. Do you think you’re developing more layers in your game?

100% we will put more layers. But I know that about sAw, he knows how to change small details in the strats but that wasn’t the issue. I feel like it’s about the layers that you’re talking about that we will add that I believe will make the game change.

In terms of the atmosphere in the team, are you enjoying Counter-Strike in this roster?

I 100% enjoy Counter-Strike. I enjoy playing with everyone in the team. I feel like everyone is a good person. They are really nice. We are having fun together.

I would say we are kind of like monkeys. We are just laughing, doing random s**t, and I’m happy to be around them.

So I don’t want to bring up old wounds, but to be honest, when I watched you at Liquid, I felt like maybe you were miserable.

No, I wasn’t miserable, I feel like. I would say Liquid is one of the best organisations in the world. No doubt about it.

Maybe I thought there were different voices, too many voices in the team, that I should be trying to give some space for other people. And it may be it gave the effect of being miserable, frustrated, or depressed. Maybe.

I don’t know. But for me, I’m happy that right now I’m G2. I wish all the best for Liquid.

When it comes to voices in G2, how is it working now?

The voices in the team, I would say it’s a hierarchy. In my opinion, the voices right now, the coach [sAw] is above everyone else, the captain [huNter-], and I think it’s SunPayus and me have the voice because we have the kind of roles where we need to talk.

But I feel like Matys and HeavyGod also, in their own areas, they know already what they need to do and how they want to play. How people need to play around them when they are playing on the site.

Are you enjoying playing with HeavyGod, with the impact he gets from his positions?

A hundred percent, a hundred percent. I think HeavyGod is doing an insane job. He’s always thinking about how we can be better, how we can bring the best out of himself. He’s doing a great job.

It’s really hard what he’s doing, and he’s delivering numbers. I’m very proud of him, and I’m very happy that I’m playing with him in the team.

You mentioned sAw. What would you say are his qualities as a coach?

I think overall, he’s never getting emotional. When things are starting to get heated in the moment, you will hear sAw’s voice.

I would say about myself, he understands me, what I’m getting annoyed about, and what I’m not getting annoyed by. And he also understands the CS at a super high level. Top three coach in the world.

He knows how to change small details in the strat so it will not be the same. He knows, he’s smart. This is something that I know, that he’s the coach that I enjoy playing with the most.
